The olive tree, Olea europaea, belongs to the Oleaceae family. It is an evergreen tree that grows widely in the Mediterranean region. The cultivated area globally is about 5.5 million hectares, 95% of which is in the countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, and 27% of the cultivated area in the world is located in Spain. Global production of olives amounts to about 17 million tons, most of which are used to extract oil.
Olive oil is easily digested, contains many beneficial vitamins, and is resistant to many infectious diseases. It has also been found to reduce the risk of heart attacks and other blood vessel diseases, and reduces levels of harmful cholesterol in the blood. It has even been found statistically to reduce the incidence of some types of cancer. Especially breast cancer. Which made the demand for its use inside and outside the Kingdom increase at a high rate.
The olive tree needs a warm climate in the summer and a cool, mild climate in the winter to be able to give a good crop. Experiments have proven that the northern regions of the Kingdom are considered a suitable environment for growing olives and producing oil from them at economic levels.
Therefore, during the first half of 2014, the company planted 150,000 olive trees with a total area of 100 hectares in its project in Al-Jawf. This was followed by additional expansions in the following years, where today it owns approximately 600,000 olive trees. The method of cultivation was followed (intensive agriculture), which is one of the most modern methods of agriculture in the United States and Europe. For her new project, she chose the best Spanish olive varieties.
